Joanne

My name is Joanne, I am 16 years old and I live in Bristol.

I was diagnosed with Sickle cell disease from birth and I have lived with it ever since. My initial wish was to go to Disneyland, however due to COVID-19, me and my family were unable to. Instead, Make-A-Wish offered me a second choice, which was a room makeover for my new home. Thanks to Make-A-Wish, my new room finally felt like somewhere I could relax and enjoy, as well as accommodate all of my health needs.

As a Starboard member, I would like to be able to spread the hope that my wish brought to my life, and give children like me an opportunity to have a moment worthy of remembering.

In addition, I aim to learn valuable skills in confidence, teamwork and communication as I work with my fellow Starboard members. I want to learn and grow in the team, as well as share my perspectives and ideas to contribute to the growth of Make-A-Wish.
