Wish child Oliver with Obi-Wan and Darth Maul
Oliver
Undiagnosed genetic condition
I wished to be a Jedi and fight Darth Maul

The wish has grown his confidence and made him forget about some of the things that have happened to him and the battles he has had to face.

Oliver has been through a lot for a 6 year old.

He's living with an undiagnosed genetic condition which has caused problems with his heart, kidney, bowels and bladder. He's already had open heart surgery, spinal surgery, and a kidney removed.

Oliver is a huge Star Wars fan who's watched all the films and spends hours re-enacting scenes with his toys. So when the young Jedi-in-the-making turned to us, he knew exactly what to wish for...

Watch the video below to see Oliver in action as a Jedi Knight, fighting Darth Maul with the help of Obi-Wan Kenobi!

How the wish has helped Oliver

We caught up with Oliver's mum Krista to see what the wish meant to him.

Oliver was afraid to show the scar that heart surgery has left him with but now he talks to people about his scar. Obi-Wan whispered to him to tell people that Darth Maul did it and that’s what he says. He used to be really self-conscious about it.

Oliver's mum Krista

"It is important to have a wish because these children have gone through so much and it helps them with all the hospital visits and traumas they have been through; a wish helps them escape from that and build some positive memories," Krista told us.

"Oli has really build positive memories today, so when he goes back to hospital in a couple of weeks he will be thinking of this and not what is happening at the hospital."

C-3PO's message to Oliver

Star Wars legend and honorary #WishMaker C-3PO had a special message for Oliver, the galaxy's newest Jedi!

Over a year on from his wish, Oliver is still a huge Star Wars fan and is continuing to practice his lightsaber skills!

His mum, Krista, is also taking part in our Rope for Hope event, an abseil down the ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, to raise money for us and help grant more wishes to children like Oliver.
