Rayondre, 15, is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia. He describes himself as a “sneakerhead”, so, it wasn’t a huge surprise to his family that his wish was to go on a shoe shopping spree!

Rayondre, age 15, is currently undergoing treatment for high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Although he is generally getting on well, he sometimes experiences unpleasant side-effects from the chemotherapy, leading to more hospital visits.

“Rayondre is a helpful, quiet, loving, kind and respectful child,” said mum, Barbara. “He cares a lot about his appearance and enjoys dressing up.”

Rayondre’s favourite thing to do is collecting shoes and pairing them with different outfits. He describes himself as a “sneakerhead”, whose favourite brands are Jordan, Asics and Nike, and his dream is to grow an impressive shoe collection. So, it wasn’t a huge surprise to his family that his wish was to go on a shoe shopping spree!

On the day, Rayondre and his family were picked up in a Hummer by their own personal driver.

“The Hummer that picked us up was very beautiful, spotless and clean,” recalled mum. “Our driver, David, was very welcoming, friendly and pleasant. We could not have asked for a better person to drive us around.”

Rayondre enjoyed exploring designer stores, such as Versace, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, followed by lunch at Bills. The highlight of his day was visiting Selfridges, where he got the full VIP treatment, including drinks and nibbles in the private lounge! Though it was tough to choose what he wanted, he settled on a cologne, three pairs of trainers and an outfit. He was even surprised with a skateboarding lesson to complete his amazing day!

“Rayondre felt special on his shopping spree. He was treated like a star in every place he visited, thanks to the Make-A-Wish team who arranged it all.” said Mum, reflecting on the wish experience as a whole.

"I would like to thank the Make-A-Wish team for this opportunity to put a smile on my son’s face and bring joy to his day, knowing that even though he’s going through this difficult health journey, there’s still things to enjoy and people out there who care and are willing to ease this horrible journey."
