Meet our volunteers

Hear from some of our Wish Makers about their experiences volunteering with Make-A-Wish.

Sian, Wales

“I wanted to volunteer for Make-A-Wish as I wanted to do something to bring happy moments and memories to those children and families going through tough times. My favourite thing about being a Wish Maker is knowing I am making a difference."

Ahmed, South West

“What surprised me the most about Make-A-Wish was that the moment I joined as an Arabic interpreter, it felt like one family, one big family.”

Sumaiya, East Midlands

“I would say definitely give volunteering a go because everyone who contributes to a wish come from different backgrounds, different ethnicities, and different skills. Whatever your skills are, you can help someone who really needs it.”

Kelly, Northern Ireland

“I’ve had numerous roles where I’ve been the first point of contact for wish children and their families… I also reach out to local suppliers and ask them if they’re able to offer any services, goods or donations to help with our wishes."

Monika, Scotland

“The best part about it is it’s so rewarding. You meet so many different volunteers who are lovely, but you also meet so many different families and children who are all just really grateful for you helping them on this journey.”

Wendy, South East

"My favourite thing about volunteering is the friendliness of the staff and the feeling of making a small difference to the children who need wishes. It gives me a sense of purpose and usefulness each week."
