When four-year-old Joel was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour, his family's world changed overnight.

As his illness progressed, Joel kept asking for the same things to be drawn for him: castles, soldiers and guards.

When Make-A-Wish UK asked Joel what he wanted most, he knew exactly what his wish would be: to visit Windsor Castle and see the Changing of the Guard.

Thanks to generous supporters, his wish was granted quickly. Joel spent a magical day exploring the castle with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Just weeks after his wish came true, Joel died peacefully in hospice care. For his family, those memories became even more precious. His mum Emily remembers:

"The wish gave us an imaginary world we could go into when everything was so rubbish."
