Useful travel-related websites

The following websites include important information for families planning to travel outside the United Kingdom, including health cover, passports and visa information.

European Health Insurance (EHIC) Card

If you are a UK resident temporarily visiting a European Union (EU) country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, and medical treatment becomes necessary, with one of these cards you are entitled to that treatment at reduced cost or sometimes free.

Little Hearts Matter

Little Hearts Matter are a national UK charity offering help to anyone affected by the diagnosis of single ventricle heart condition. From initial antenatal diagnosis, through treatments and into life at home, the charity works with children, young adults and families to reduce the isolation, fear and lack of understanding created when a child is diagnosed as having half a working heart.

Metabolic Support UK are the leading patient organisation for Inherited Metabolic Disorders supporting thousands of patients worldwide. They deliver many support services to patients and families to meet their varying needs, including Family and Community Services, Awareness and Advocacy and Information and Research.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families while their child is in hospital. There are 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, all located close to specialist children's hospitals. The houses are open 365 days a year and are equipped with everything you would find in a family home. Families can get a good night's sleep, prepare their own meals and feel at home, knowing that they're only a moments away from their child.
