Shiffa has been living with type 1 diabetes since she was 4. But her family knew something else was wrong when she started losing her eyesight.
After lengthy investigations and referrals to several different hospitals, Shiffa was diagnosed with Wolfram syndrome, a rare genetic condition, at just 9 years old. The diagnosis was heart-breaking for Shiffa's family – especially as Shiffa’s brother has now been diagnosed with the same condition.
There's no cure for Wolfram syndrome, so Shiffa is taking each day as it comes.
Growing up, Shiffa had been sharing a small room and bed with her younger sister Sumayyah – so when she turned to us, her wish was to have a magical bedroom makeover! So we took donations from people like you, added a touch of Make-A-Wish magic, and got to work transforming Shiffa’s room.
We need your help to grant another child's wish.
"The best moment in the process was when the room was revealed – Shiffa walked in and said it was like being in a 5* hotel!" dad Jahangir told us after Shiffa’s room had been finished. In fact, Shiffa was so proud of her new room that she put on an opening ceremony to show her friends and family!
"The wish really lifted Shiffa's spirits – she feels like she has more control as she had her own say in the room and it was brought to life, which has really helped her confidence," continued Jahangir.
Although Shiffa’s eyesight has deteriorated, she can see the walls and decorations up close. She now looks forward to spending time in her room and finds it an amazing place to relax.
