Shirley - Supporter Experience Officer
I’m Shirley, you’ll recognise me on the phone from my northern accent as despite after settling in Surrey in 1995, I still haven’t shaken the twang from my early years in Sunderland.
You could say for me that variety is the spice of life as career wise I’ve undertaken a range of paid and voluntary roles in different sectors: secondary teacher, HR Manager, PTA Chair, school governor, primary teacher.
I love family fun times, adventure and travel, be it a simple family picnic, long walk or doing more crazy things like zip wiring, or white water rafting you can count me in. My favourite thing to date has been to co-pilot a sea plane! At home I enjoy, cooking, making celebration cakes, gardening and will tackle most DIY projects. I love a party and of course a cocktail!
My journey with Make-A-Wish started many years ago when a friend’s son was granted a wish. The positive impact and difference that made left a lasting impression on me and in 2014 I joined as a volunteer undertaking office projects and some external events. My love of the work we do has only deepened and in 2018 I became a staff member in the fundraising team.
My role at Make-A-Wish
Your journey as a fundraiser will start with myself or my colleague, Charlotte. We'll look after your initial registration and ensure you're placed with the right person to give you the best support for a fun and enjoyable fundraising experience.
I’m here to help you with all your fundraising needs; general advice, fundraising materials, and how to pay in your fundraising. I can advise on schools fundraising, the London 10K, how to access matched funding and help you set up an online giving page.
What would my wish be?
If I could have a wish it would be to go to New Zealand and complete the four day Milford Track, deemed one of the world’s finest walks. If Hugh Jackman wanted to come along that would be even better!
