Important Event Announcement

Sadly, the Brighton Marathon organisers have announced that the postponed 2020 event will not be going ahead in September this year. The full statement from the organisers can be found here.

We know this will be incredibly disappointing news for you after the many months of training and fundraising. Brighton Marathon was part of a series of events that was set to raise over £800,000 to help us grant wishes to children across the UK. 2,000 children’s wishes are currently waiting to be granted as soon as it is safe for us to do so.


What happens next? 

The organisers have let us know that charity places from this year’s event will be rolled over to 2021. As we have already received rollover details from the organisers, we have automatically moved all charity runners to the 2021 event.

FAQs

Q: When is the new event date for 2021?

The event organisers have secured the 2021 date which will be the 18th April 2021.

Q: What happens to my place?

The organisers have let us know that this year's places will be rolled over to 2021. All charity runners have automatically been moved to the 2021 event.

Q: What happens to my registration fee?

The registration fee is non-refundable, and you will not incur another fee to take part in 2021.

Q: What happens to my fundraising?

All online fundraising is sent to Make-A-Wish on a weekly basis and so will have already been put to use helping us grant wishes for children across the UK. If you have already raised funds towards your 2020 total, then these will roll over and continue to count towards 2021. We currently have 2,000 children whose wishes have been cancelled or put on hold as a result of corona virus. Now, our main priority is to make sure we have sufficient funds to grant their wishes as soon as we are able to.

Q: I have a ballot place – what does this mean for me?

A place in the 2021 Brighton Marathon Weekend is guaranteed for all 2020 general entry participants. The organisers will update you by mid-August 2020 with further information about the options available to you.

Q: Can I transfer my place to another event with Make-A-Wish UK?

We will be able to give more information once we have had more clarity around the 2021 event.

Q: I had already deferred to 2021 prior to cancellation – what does this mean for me?

There is nothing further for you to do if you wish to take part. If you can no longer attend the 2021 event, please get in touch with the Supporter Experience team on runs@makeawish.org.uk.

Q: I have lost money due to the price of accommodation/travel, what can I do?

Please check with your insurance provider or travel agent.
