Do you believe that wishes come true?

In 2017, George was diagnosed with Batten disease, a disorder of the nervous system that leaves children suffering cognitive impairment, seizures, and progressive loss of sight and speech. Sadly, there is no cure. And those with the condition often die in childhood.

George’s family wanted to make the most of every day that they had left with him. They put together a “bucket and spade” list so he would be able to have as many incredible experiences as possible. However, there was a particular adventure they couldn’t pull off by themselves so they turned to Make-A-Wish UK.

George’s wish was to go tobogganing down the side of a mountain in Austria. George was a bit of an adrenaline junkie and loved going anywhere fast. The wish had a particular moment that made it incredibly special. As George and mum, Claire, were travelling down on their toboggan, George spoke for the first time in 18 months!

Sadly, George passed away last year. But this Christmas, with the help of George’s mum Claire, we want to share his story with you and how the power of a wish is a truly wonderful thing!

There are hundreds of children living with critical illnesses throughout the country right now for whom a wish could make the world of difference. Wishes are more than a few hours of happiness, the whole experience from anticipation to the actual wish provides hope and excitement.

This Christmas, we need you to help us make wishes like George’s come true.
