Wish Referral Officer
Closing date: 19th August 2022
Salary: £26,200 p.a.

Make-A-Wish UK is looking for a Wish Referral Officer to join the Wishgranting Team in bringing happiness and magic to every eligible child who turns to us for a Wish.
Right now, over 60,000* children in the UK are eligible for a wish because they have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, a diagnosis that changes their lives and the lives of their families forever.
The power of a wish revives a childhood stolen by critical illness. It brings light and joy to children and their loved ones, with a profound and lasting impact on all their lives.
However, granting wishes takes volunteers, community support, skills and donations to help children feel like children again. So, we’re looking for people like you to help.
Make-A-Wish is an inspiring place to work as we’re immersed in the magical world of children’s imaginations! You'll be joining us at an exciting time as we launch our ambitious new strategy which will, ultimately, enable us to reach more children and young people with a wish.
About the role
The Wish Referral Officer role will be responsible for processing new referral applications working with our referral partners, wish children and their families at the first stage of the wish journey You'll be the first point of contact for any new enquiries and will ensure that all paperwork is completed, permissions given and all data is secure and uploaded onto our CRM system.
You're the key to starting each eligible child on their wish journey and will be making a difference to hundreds of wish families who turn to Make-A-Wish UK each year.
You'll be managing the communication with and allocation of wish volunteers for wish capture. Wish capture is part of the wish journey where Wish Makers visit the home of the wish child to capture their wish. Once the wish is captured, it is then handed over to a Wishgranter who will continue to grant the wish. The Wish Referral Officer will act as a point of contact for the Wish Maker community and will need to be articulate in communications, both verbal and written.
You'll need to have an eye for detail to ensure all data entry is correct and up to date, alongside strong communication skills as you communicate with multiple stakeholders – from volunteers and wish families to medical professionals. You'll be processing sensitive data and must ensure that this is handled confidentially, so awareness of the Data Privacy Act is a must to ensure accuracy of data entry.
You'll need to always keep calm and professional, especially in emotional situations, and be able to prioritise an ongoing workload of wish applications.
You'll support the Wish Referral Lead in building relationships with new stakeholders and supporting them in their journeys, as well as supporting the Wish Referral Lead in development of the wish journey and its processes.
You'll be encouraged to support all Make-A-Wish UK activities and will be asked to get involved in activities outside of your job role.
Knowledge of medical terminology is preferable although is not essential.
A DBS check will be required.
We're a flexible organisation that promotes agile working and had the technology in place for employees to work from home before the pandemic. We also work out of accessible, bright, airy offices directly opposite Reading train and bus stations.

The organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS check will be requested where required. Employment is subject to positive references and proof of the right to work in the UK.
