Latest Wishes - Joe gets the Les Paul he's dreamed of

Joe with his coveted new guitar

Make-A-Wish grants Joe’s wish for a brand-new guitar...

Music lover Joe, from Glastonbury, lives with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, a rare blood cancer. When he was diagnosed Joe, already a keen drummer, set himself the challenge of learning how to play the guitar.

When Make-A-Wish heard he was taking lessons, the charity stepped in to give Joe a guitar of his own so he could jam as long as he wanted to his favourite band, Led Zeppelin - he clearly has a lot of respect for rock music's heritage.

We arranged for 16 year old Joe to be whisked to Mansons Guitar Shop in Exeter to choose his very own Gibson Les Paul (a best-selling guitar originally endorsed in the 1950s by well-known guitarist Les Paul, who died only last year).

After choosing his sunburst-finish left-handed guitar, Joe said: “This is the best gift ever – I can’t believe it’s all mine!”

Joe’s Dad Paul said: “This day has been brilliant. We feel so privileged to be here. Adrian, who owns the shop, has been such a fantastic host and to take the time to do this for Joe today is so nice – thank you! Joe has loved every minute; his face was such a picture when he saw his guitar; he was so happy.”

In 2010, around 1,000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted. We need to raise £5 million this year in order to continue granting these magical wishes. Please help us to grant more magical wishes by making a donation today
