Latest Wishes - Darren Hayes ‘puts on the Ritz’ with young cancer patient

Make-A-Wish arranged for USA citizen Serena to enjoy high tea at the famous Ritz Hotel with her musical idol, Darren Hayes.

Serena (from Phoenix, Arizona) has been living with cancer of the thyroid. She’s a huge fan of Darren Hayes (formerly of the pop group Savage Garden) – his music has been particularly inspirational and has helped her cope with many of the difficulties brought about by her illness.

Staff at the Ritz had prepared a special room for Serena’s tea with Darren, so they were not disturbed as they chatted. It turned out that the two of them had actually previously met, at a concert signing back in Phoenix. Darren had even read Serena’s blog before their meeting - he was well up to speed on all her interests and hobbies - and he’d even bought Serena a present to commemorate the day.

Darren said: “It was so inspiring meeting Serena and her family. She has such a positive spark and her family's sense of humour was infectious. It’s wonderful to be a small part of their celebration of life. Please donate and support this amazing charity.”

Serena said: “It was an amazing experience. Darren is just an absolutely lovely person. I want to thank everyone involved in making this happen. I believe in miracles and a miracle has happened today."
