Dayna aged 11, from Kincardine in Scotland, enjoyed a truly special evening when she had her wish granted to meet pop star Duffy.
Dayna, who is undergoing treatment for a brain stem tumour, became the envy of pop fans all over the world when she met her idol, chart topping singer Duffy.
The meet was originally planned for August at the Hydro Connect Music Festival. However Dayna was disappointingly too poorly to attend and the wish had to be postponed. Duffy was also disappointed not to meet her number one fan.
Dayna now has her strength back and was this time well enough to see Duffy perform in Glasgow.
The excitement began for Dayna when she was collected from her home in a luxury limousine and taken in style to TGI Friday’s for a pre-concert dinner with her family. After dinner the party was taken to Glasgow’s Carling Academy to watch Duffy, the highlight of the evening.
On arrival at The Academy, Dayna received VIP treatment as she was escorted back stage to meet her idol. Dayna could barely contain her excitement and, as soon as Duffy saw Dayna, she ran over and greeted her with a hug and a kiss on the cheek, leaving the mark of big red lips imprinted on Dayna’s cheek. Duffy gave her a host of gifts including chocolates, a Duffy bag and other signed merchandise.
After meeting her idol, it was time to watch the performance. Dayna had an incredible time at the concert and tapped her hand throughout her favourite songs. At the end of the concert Duffy left her final words for Dayna, saying: “Finally I’d like to thank my special guest, Dayna”, at which point the spotlight came down on her.
After the show, when the rest of the audience had cleared, Duffy came to give Dayna a final hug and kiss goodbye. Duffy told Dayna it was her absolute pleasure to meet her and she would love to see her again at her next gig. At the end of the night, Dayna was exhausted from all the excitement but was absolutely thrilled with her wish.
Dayna’s mother, Rhona, said: “We are so happy that Dayna got her wish today. We only told Dayna that it was happening this morning, so to see the excitement on her face all day has been incredible. Duffy has been fantastic to her and Dayna really couldn’t have wished for more. This is more than we ever expected. Duffy is such a lovely person and Dayna has just loved meeting her”.
Make-A-Wish would like to thank Duffy and her management team for making this very special wish happen.
Regrettably Dayna passed away a few weeks after her wish was granted. We are very grateful to Dayna's parents for allowing us to share her wish.
In 2010, around 1,000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted. We need to raise £5 million this year in order to continue granting these magical wishes. Please help us to grant more magical wishes by making a donation today
