Two aircraft-loving youngsters enjoyed an exciting day when their special wishes became a magical reality at Farnborough Air Show.
James from Walsall, aged 15, who is living with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Kevin, aged 16, from St Albans who is living with Neurofibromatosis, and their families, were treated like VIPS.
The day started when they were collected from the Grosvenor House Hotel in luxury limousines and driven in style to the Farnborough Airshow accompanied by Flt Lt Luke Wilkinson and Flt Lt Ryan Sandberg. At the show the families were met by Sam Macleod and Julie Mears from Goodrich Corporation who had made the wish possible and who were to be their hosts for the day.
The boys and their families received VIP treatment from the off including passes to all areas of the show. First, James was taken on the thrilling Boeing flight simulator and then met his heroes, the world famous Red Arrows. Kevin was taken on the Airbus A380 about which he was very knowledgeable. Both boys are flying enthusiasts, and this was their wish coming true.
Kevin and James also visited Lockheed Martin and each sat at the simulator and brought the F35 safely into land at Fort Worth! Then the families were treated to lunch before watching various aerial displays including the famous Red Arrows perform breathtaking stunts, leaving everyone captivated.
James said “I’ve had the best day of my life. It was great to meet the Red Arrows.”
Lynn, James's mother, said “We have had the most amazing wish, seeing James this happy is wonderful for my family. Thank you Goodrich and Make-A-Wish, we will never forget this day.”
Beverley, Kevin’s mother, said “We’ve had a fabulous day. Kevin has always loved aeroplanes, particularly the Airbus, ever since he was a young child. It is lovely to see him this happy. Thank you Goodrich and Make-A-Wish, my family will never forget this day.”
Make-A-Wish would like to thank Goodrich, the Red Arrows, Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and all the people at Farnborough Airshow who made these wishes so magical.
