“The wish meant so much to all of us, because when Kallum was in hospital he was only ever allowed out for an hour or so.” See how little Kallum enjoyed his day at a fire station – and met one of his heroes.....
Make-A-Wish was delighted to be able to grant the wish of three year old Kallum from Great Yarmouth to be a fireman and meet Fireman Sam in the flesh. Kallum, who is fighting Rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancerous tumour, was taken to Great Yarmouth Fire Station in a red Hummer limousine – where he received a very special welcome.
Then, kitted out in all the gear, Kallum received a tour of the fire station, a lesson in using a fireman’s hose and a trip in a fire engine, before rounding the day off with a meal at Frankie and Benny’s.
Kallum’s Mum Joanne said: “It was a really amazing day. We were greeted by Fireman Sam as soon as we arrived and Kallum enjoyed every second of it – running around in excitement.
“The fire crew were very attentive and looked after Kallum the whole day, taking him round the block in the fire engine and sounding the horn. Kallum loved playing with the hose and getting the fire crew wet.
“As a keepsake, the crew gave Kallum a real fireman’s hat – it’s very heavy but he loves it and carries it with him everywhere. Rainbow Productions were fantastic too. They gave Kallum Fireman Sam toys which he has not stopped playing with since.
“The doctors said Kallum would not live past the age of three and that he would not walk, so for him to have had this day and seem so sprightly was amazing after all he has gone through. We are so thankful to Make-A-Wish for making it such a special day, especially as it was a day we did not think would happen.
“Kallum’s next four-monthly scan is coming up soon, so fingers crossed come scan day. We will treasure the pictures of Kallum’s day as a fireman forever, no matter what the future brings.”
