Wish Visitor

Locations:

Scotland - Dumfries & Galloway, Kilmarnock, Motherwell
  Northern Ireland - Enniskillen, Omagh, Londonderry, Limavady
North England - Penrith, Carlisle, Keswick
East England - King’s Lynn, Downham Market, Norwich, Thetford
South West England – Truro, Plymouth, Exeter, Torquay

Purpose:

To visit a wish child in their home and ascertain their favourite wish to be granted.

Key Activities:

To encourage open discussion with the child and family to discover what the child really wishes for and why. To write up and submit a report of the visit, ensuring that all relevant information is included.

Time Commitment:

Difficult to be specific about times and days as each case is different, but visits normally last a couple of hours not including travelling time and will need to be arranged to suit the availability of the child and their family.

Skills:

  • Good verbal communication with children, young people and parents
  • Ability to cope with what may be distressing information and situations
  • Excellent listening and report writing skills
  • Ability to remain sensitive and patient in difficult situations.

 

Public Speaker

Locations:

South-East London
  South-East England - Reading, Guildford, Maidstone, Chatham

Purpose:

To act as a public representative of Make-A-Wish in the local community, presenting to a wide variety of professional and community organisations - including schools.

Time Commitment:

Difficult to be specific about times and days as each case is different, but events normally last a couple of hours not including travelling time and will normally be during the daytime.

Skills:

  • Some experience of speaking in public settings
  • Able to vary presentation style and demonstrate empathy with diverse audiences
  • Will deliver the key messages and information provided
  • Respects others' opinions, beliefs and points of view.

 

Promotional Agents

Locations:

Taunton
  Newcastle-Upon-Tyne
  Worcester
  Hereford

Purpose:

To attend promotional events, shows and other similar activities in order to help raise awareness of Make-A-Wish.

Key Activities:

To promote and publicise all aspects of Make-A-Wish and, where permitted, ensure Make-A-Wish literature is on display.

Time Commitment:

Being on duty at a promotional event will normally last 3 to 4 hours not including travel time and can take place during the day, evening or at weekends.

Skills:

  • Confident with dealing with members of the public
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Imaginative and enthusiastic
  • Well organised and punctual
  • Smart appearance.
