Make-A-Wish to help even more children

Five year old Emma, who wished to be a princess for the day

Children and young people living with A.L.L. are now eligible for wishes.

Make-A-Wish is pleased to announce that from May 2010 we are happy for children to be referred to us who are living with first-diagnosed cases of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (A.L.L.), a form of cancer of the white blood cells.

Until now, we have only accepted children with this particular illness who had relapsed (such as Emma, pictured) or who had undergone a bone marrow transplant. We recognise that, although the recovery rate for A.L.L. is happily high, when children and young people are fighting this illness, they are nevertheless undergoing many months of painful treatment and disruption to their lives and those of their families.

Approximately 500 children per year are diagnosed with this form of Leukaemia in the UK and it is our hope that we will be able to grant a magical wish to all of these very brave children.

If you know a child or young person with A.L.L. and would like to refer them for a wish, please follow this link: http://www.make-a-wish.org.uk//wishes/criteria/ or call our Wishgranting department on 01276 40 50 70.
