Be a Clothes Aid Charity Champion!

Charity Champions tag Clothes Aid

The average woman hoards 22 items of clothing she will never wear, hidden away at the back of the wardrobe. And it’s not just women – according to research conducted by the TV and online retailer QVC, men have an average of 19 items of unworn clothing hidden away.

In one year, the fashion-hungry British consumer accumulates nearly five binliners full of clothing. But despite our passion for fashion, we only wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time and, according to DEFRA, we throw out nearly 2 million tonnes of clothing each year.

Clothes Aid and Make-A-Wish want to liberate these unloved clothes and give them a new life.  Impulse buys, unwanted gifts, wrong size, wrong colour? Clearing out your wardrobe is now a simple and effective way to support Make-A-Wish. We’re looking for any clothes, shoes and accessories that are still in a really good, wearable condition. They don't need to be designer brands – high-street fashion is fine. Remember – the better the quality, the more money raised for Make-A-Wish.

Supporters of Make-A-Wish can get involved in this new scheme by joining up as ‘Clothes Aid Charity Champions.’  As a Charity Champion, all we ask is that you collect just a few ‘seldom worn’ items of clothing from your friends, family and colleagues a few times a year. You could do this at a coffee morning, a parent and toddler group, or even at your office. When you sign up on the Clothes Aid website, you’ll be sent a toolkit with guidelines, leaflets and posters to help you with your collection. When you have a few bags, let Clothes Aid know and they’ll come and collect them from you.

Clothes will be sent for reuse – diverting them from landfill (or gathering dust in the wardrobe) and reducing greenhouse gases.

If you’re interested in becoming a Charity Champion, please visit the Clothes Aid Charity Champions website for more information, or call their dedicated helpline on 08450 722780.
