Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving, or Give As You Earn (GAYE), is a fantastic way for employees to make regular payments to Make-A-Wish directly from their pay. People who receive their company/personal pension through Pay As You Earn (PAYE) can also take part.
If you're interested in Payroll Giving as an employee, read on. For information about Payroll Giving as an employer, click here
Payments made through a Payroll Giving Scheme are deducted from your pay before tax is deducted. This means that you are given tax relief on your donation immediately - and at your highest rate of tax.
If your company doesn’t already have a Payroll Giving Scheme it's easy to set one up. There's little in the way of cost and administration, and your employer will probably be able to adapt your existing payroll system to operate the scheme.
The benefits of Payroll Giving
Payroll giving lets you make donations to Make-A-Wish directly from your pay – providing you pay tax through PAYE. You can donate as much or as little as you want.
Your donations can be made regularly from weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, monthly, or quarterly pay.
We benefit because we get regular donations to help us grant more wishes. And you benefit because you get tax relief on your donations straight away at your top rate of tax, meaning that your donations cost less.
For example, if you pay tax at the basic rate of 20% it would only cost you £8 to make a £10 donation to Make-A-Wish. If you pay tax at the higher rate of 40% it would only cost you £6 to make the same sized donation.
Payroll Giving is taken straight from your gross (pre-tax) pay so there is no need for Make-A-Wish to claim the tax back through Gift Aid – saving us valuable time and administration costs.
If you are a 40% or 50% taxpayer, Payroll Giving is the only way we can automatically receive all your tax on a donation.
