Give in celebration
Asking people to donate to Make-A-Wish in celebration of your birthday, anniversary or wedding is a great way to mark your special occasion while helping to grant wishes to deserving children who are living with life-threatening conditions.
More and more people are choosing to ask for donations to charity instead of gifts, and at Make-A-Wish we are especially grateful if you choose to support us in this way.
For instance, five year olds Mollie and Alex had a birthday party and asked all their friends to give to Make-A-Wish instead of buying them presents. Here, Alex’s Mum Cherie tells us how and why the little ones chose to support Make-A-Wish:
"Mollie and Alex both have birthdays in January, and as they are so blessed to receive so many presents from Santa, family and friends they both thought it would be a terrific idea to ask for donations for children who are less fortunate instead.
"They wanted the donations to go to children who really needed something special in their lives, and when we (as parents) spoke to Mollie and Alex about it, they both thought Make-A-Wish would be the best charity to give money to.
"As most parents know, children are completely overwhelmed with gifts these days, and usually have so many toys and games that they forget what they have in the abyss of their toy boxes, so what better way to alleviate this cluttering problem than to give generously to children who really need it!
"The party was a huge success, and we managed to raise over £300 for Make-A-Wish, which was the best gift of all."
You can invite online pledges and donations for your special day by setting up a JustGiving page.
