One day Trekathon Events
Take part in these exciting and challenging one day trekking events for Make-A-Wish. Each trek is held over a marathon distance of 26 miles and forms an significant challenge for walkers.
There will be full support throughout the challenges, with marshals and water stops along the routes.
There are five different Trekathons to choose from. Each event includes a different area of the UK and will take in landmarks such as Hadrian’s Wall, Glastonbury Tor and Salisbury Cathedral.
Trekathon Events available:-
South Downs Trekathon – Saturday 19 May 2012
The route starts at the Castle in the old town of Lewes and follows part of the famously scenic South Downs Way. You'll tackle stiff climbs and descents before our spectacular stretch over the famous white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters, then finishing on the highest chalk sea cliff in England – the beautiful headland of Beachy Head, near Eastbourne.
Hadrian’s Wall – Saturday 23 June 2012
Starting in Carlisle, your route cuts through Northumberland National Park to the final destination of Housesteads (the most complete Roman fort in Britain) and runs alongside the Wall, one of Britain’s most famous landmarks, taking in the ancient monuments and beautiful scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Cheddar to Glastonbury – Saturday 28 July 2012
Starting from near to the village of Cheddar you’ll walk the edge of the Mendip Hills to Cheddar Gorge and on to the small cathedral city of Wells. The route continues across the flatter farmland of rural Somerset, finally turning west towards Glastonbury for a last effort to the top of Glastonbury Tor.
Spire 2 Spire Trekathon – Saturday 8 September 2012
Your route takes you from Winchester’s historic Cathedral into picturesque English countryside, trekking through farmland, ancient woodland, chalk valleys and quiet villages. Your destination is the magnificent 13th century Salisbury Cathedral.
London Stadia Trekathon – Sunday 13 May 2012 OR Saturday 1 September 2012
This challenging day will take you west into the heart of the City and then along the thriving streets of busy London, through peaceful parks and past several venues for the London Olympics, before you follow the slow-paced life on the river eastwards to the finish point at the O2 Arena.
How to take part
To take part in this challenge, we ask that you pay a registration fee of £49 and raise the minimum sponsorship of at least £100.
