Latest Wishes - Michael’s galactic bedroom makeover

Michael and Rickielee enjoy meeting their stormtrooper companion!

Light sabres at the ready! Michael loves Star Wars and wished for a bedroom makeover. However, he and his brother weren’t expecting to be visited by a real-life stormtrooper.....!

Michael, aged nine and from Driffield in East Yorkshire, had a surprise visit from a real-life stormtrooper in his new room, which was transformed into a galactic republic - courtesy of Make-A-Wish.

Michael - a huge Star Wars fan - lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative disease that causes his muscles to weaken.

He shares a room with his brother Rickielee, aged 13 and also living with the disease. Rickielee had his wish granted by Make-A-Wish in 2005 to go to Florida with the whole family.

The boys’ room is now light years away from how it used to look. Star Wars murals emblazon the walls, with characters from the movie to keep the boys company.

The room has also had a calming effect on the boys, whose condition often keeps them awake at night.

Michael’s Mum Amanda said: “The room is amazing. Michael and his brother usually take hours to go to sleep and need to watch a film to wind-down.

“But on the first night in the room, Michael fell asleep within five minutes for the first time in years. As for the stormtrooper - I just can’t believe it!”

In 2010, around 1,000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted. We need to raise £5 million this year in order to continue granting these magical wishes. Please help us to grant more magical wishes by making a donation today
