Make-A-Wish Volunteers

Make-A-Wish is privileged to have a team of over 500 volunteers across the UK, actively supporting the charity in a wide variety of ways. The contribution made by our volunteers is invaluable in helping us to continue to grant magical wishes to some very deserving children.

People volunteer for many different reasons, but one thing that unites them all is that they find it challenging, rewarding and varied. Volunteering can add a great deal to your life and the lives of those for whom you volunteer. It offers you a chance to become involved with an organisation you really care about as well as an opportunity to meet new and like-minded people. It also gives you the chance to try out something different from your 'everyday' job, which may lead on to new career opportunities.

Following a period of change and consolidation, we are now launching the new volunteer recruitment and training programme. Make-A-Wish Volunteers

Kirsten joined Make-A-Wish as a volunteer in October 2008. She’d been thinking about volunteering whilst she was at University and once she graduated, decided it was time to get involved as it would be good for her own personal development and would also be lots of fun!

After her initial enquiries, Make-A-Wish responded to her and following an induction, she quickly became involved in everything from fundraising to wishgranting. She particularly enjoys the variety of things that volunteers can get involved in at Make-A-Wish.

“Often after I’ve had a rubbish day at work, I’ll meet the wish families and seeing the hardship they have to deal with really puts things into perspective. One particularly memorable visit was with a little lad with a brain tumour – he was so full of life and energy despite his illness. The family were really welcoming – he’d drawn pictures to help describe his wishes. I love meeting the families and children and it is such a nice feeling to be part of a special wish experience that they will always remember.”

“Deciding to become a volunteer for Make A-Wish is one of the best and most positive things I’ve ever done!”
