Lilywhites score for Belfast boy

A ten year old football fan has been granted his wish to meet the players, dine in the Executive Box and be a mascot for his favourite team, Preston North End FC.

Alex, from Garnerville in Belfast and living with Epilepsy so severe that he cannot communicate verbally, had his parents and siblings with him as he was whisked from home to a luxury Merseyside hotel, from where they were all able to visit the Blue Planet Aquarium and relax as a family before matchday.

The next morning, a limousine was waiting to chauffeur the family to the Deepdale Stadium in Preston, where they dined in the Executive Box ahead of the match against Watford.

Kitted out in full matchday kit in the changing rooms, Alex was introduced to the Preston North End players, including his hero Sean St Ledger and the club’s official mascot, Deepdale Duck, before leading the team out for kick-off and watching the match.

Alex was able to tell us in his own way: “I really enjoyed meeting the team and Deepdale Duck. Being a mascot with my favourite player Sean St Ledger, or Ledge as I know him now, was brilliant!”

Mum Irene says: “Alex’s wish was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. I can’t thank Make-A-Wish enough. There is nothing I can compare it to, it was magical!”
